Jewellery Information:

Does PJ Boutique Jewellery Tarnish?

ALL Silver tarnishes. Our Silver is high quality .925 Sterling Silver and requires the same
care that anything made of silver does. It will not tarnish any faster than your average
.925 sterling silver item.

Some silver & platinum plated items occasionally oxidise (turn black.) It is unusual for
our jewellery to discolour after proper cleaning and care. If it does, it may be due to the
Ph Factor in the Body. This is when the Acid in the body reacts chemically with the metal.
This is not a quality problem and seldom happens.

Sterling Silver Care:

v      Silver needs to be cleaned on a regular basis as it will tarnish in time.

v      Avoid sharp blows and always remove your jewellery before taking a shower,
gardening, playing sport, house cleaning etc.  Certain soaps and chemicals may damage
your jewellery.

v      Always store your jewellery in a cool, dry place and store pieces separately in order
to avoid scratching.

v      To maintain the original condition of your jewellery clean with a mild, non-abrasive,
jewellery cleaning solution or warm soapy water.  An ultrasonic cleaner may also be used.
Thoroughly wipe dry and buff with a soft jewellery cloth.

Cubic Zirconia Care:

v      Use a soft brush & a mild, non-abrasive, jewellery cleaning solution (or warm soapy water.)
An ultrasonic cleaner may also be used. Wipe dry with a soft jewellery cloth.

v      If worn on a regular basis, cubic zirconia’s should be cleaned every 2-3 weeks.
It’s also recommended to have the setting checked for wear and possible loose stones.

v      With proper care, your jewellery will last a lifetime.

Cubic zirconia’s come closer than any other material to matching the characteristics of a
natural diamond. It is hard to distinguish the difference with the naked eye, but there are
a few technical differences.

Fire & Brilliance: CZ has slightly less brilliance (liveliness and sparkle) than diamonds,
while having more fire (flashes of rainbow colours).
Hardness: CZ has a scientific hardness rating of 8.5 on the Mohs' scale. Diamonds have a
rating of 10.

Carat (Weight): CZ is about 75 percent heavier than a diamond.

Colour: Beyond classic white, CZ is now available in many beautiful colours, such as
lavender blue, amethyst, canary yellow, pink, emerald green, sapphire blue and ruby red.

Cut: The finest CZ is machine cut to exacting tolerances that duplicates the
diamond-cutting process. Like a diamond, CZ can be chiseled into a variety
of fashion shapes and cuts.

Fashion and costume jewellery care:

Costume jewellery is often made up of various metal alloys which will not have the same
life span as more expensive pieces of jewellery. It is very important, therefore, to do
what you can to prolong the life of your costume jewellery.  With a little care, the life of
the metal plating can be enhanced. The following tips will help you to keep your jewellery
looking at its best.

v      Always store your jewellery in a cool, dry place and store pieces separately in order
to avoid scratching.

v      Clean and buff with a soft jewellery cloth.

v      Avoid contact with water, sweaty or oily skin & chemicals, such as perfume, hair spray,
deodorant, household cleaning products, alcohol-based products etc.

v      If your jewellery should come into contact with any of the above, wipe over with a
damp cloth and dry thoroughly with a soft jewellery cloth.  Moisture can damage pieces
and cause them to rust.

Do you re-size rings?

No, But we may have your size available in store. If not please contact us. Some items can
be re-sized by your Jeweller, or we may be able to order it for you.

How can I find my ring size?

v      Wrap a piece of string around the base of the appropriate finger.

v      Cut the string to the exact length & measure the length with a ruler.

v      Use this measurement to compare to the chart below.  It's recommended to
go one size up if you are in between two sizes.
